District Grants

What are District Grants?

District Grants fund smaller, short-term activities that address needs in both your local community and communities worldwide. Each District chooses which projects it will fund with these grants.

  • You can use District Grants to fund a variety of activities, including:
    • Humanitarian projects, including service travel and disaster recovery efforts
    • Scholarships for any level, length of time, location, or area of study
    • Vocational training of any team size or timespan

  • Total District Designated Funds (DDF) available to District 5230 for 2019-2020 is approximately  $172,172.58.  .
  • District 5230 will request from TRF the full 50% of DDF that is allowed for District Grants or $86,086.29.

  • $71,086.29 of the District Grant will be allocated to clubs to fund their District Grants projects.
How is the $71,086.29 available to clubs allocated?
  • The allocation to clubs will be based on the clubs’ giving to the Annual Programs Fund in the prior three full Rotary years.
  • The average three-year giving will be compared to the total and a percentage calculated.
  • The percentage calculated will be multiplied towards the total allocation to determine the club share.
  • If the club share is less than $250 that amount will be rounded to zero with these exceptions:
    • Newly-chartered clubs will be allocated a minimum of $300.00 in each of their first three years.
    • Clubs contributions during the 2016-2017 Rotary year will be allocated a minimum of $300.00.
What projects are eligible for a District Grant?
  • An eligible club project will be a new project to the club or an expansion of a past project (e.g. last year the club purchased dictionaries for 3rd graders at School A. This year, the project has been expanded to purchase dictionaries for 3rd graders at School A and School B.).
  • The project must be’ hands-on’. Meaning active Rotarian involvement.
  • The project may be local or international.
  • The parameters for District Simplified Grants as set out in the Terms and Conditions by The Rotary Foundation will apply to Club District Grants.
  • Clubs are encouraged to collaborate on projects.
  • Eligible projects can include Scholarships, GCE trips or VTT trips.
  • The amount received by the club from the District Grant is not a match. The entire funding for the project may come from the District Grant amount.
