This Rotary year District Governor George Wade’s signature project will be networking. He will reintroduce the concept of Rotarians doing business with Rotarians and send a strong message that it’s alright to talk about it. In support of this networking we will introduce a revolutionary internet based tool www.RotaryYP.org which will connect you with a Rotarian that you can do business with. This tool will help you find a Rotarian who is doing business within 50 miles of your very own zip code. Steve Koobatian (drkoobatian@vocationaldesigns.com) is taking the lead on this project and would encourage all club Presidents to keep the B2B focus in front of all members and ask them at your regional meetings to share stories of what their clubs are doing. Also, please relay your B2B success, activities, and stories to Steve Koobatian so we can create great news items in our district newsletters to keep enthusiasm and interest moving forward!
Vocational Service is the second Avenue of Service. No aspect of Rotary is more closely related to each member than a personal commitment to represent one’s vacation or occupation to fellow Rotarians and to exemplify the characteristics of high ethical standards and the dignity of work. Vocational Service programs seek to improve business relations while improving the quality of trades, industry, commerce, and the professions. Rotarians understand that each person makes a valuable contribution to a better society through daily activities in a business or profession.
Vocational Service is frequently demonstrated by offering career guidance and occupational information to young people and helping them make vocational choices. Some clubs sponsor high school career conferences. Many recognize the dignity of employment by honoring exemplary service of individuals working in their communities. The Four-Way test and other ethical business philosophies are often promoted among young people entering the world of work. Vocational talks and discussion of business issues are also typical Vocational Service programs.
Regardless of the ways in which Vocational Service is expressed, this year District 5230 will be the banner by which fellow Rotarians “recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations” and demonstrate a commitment to “high ethical standards in all businesses and professions” and to support District Governor Wade in Business 2 Business Success.
Please feel free to use our Vocational Services tool kit as a resource.
