Claiming Our Future
Rotary Membership Challenge

This year, Governor George Wade has set an ambitious goal of a net ten percent growth in membership. As ambitious as this sounds, we already hit an eight percent net growth rate in 2001-2002 and we can do better than that this time.

To reach our goal, what we need to do is get back to basics, back to what Rotary has always done very well: identify those highly qualified business men and women in our community and invite them to join our Rotary clubs; simple, powerful and effective.

Rotary is the premier service organization in the world; being asked to join is a privilege and an honor. When asked, every Rotarian can tell you the name of the person that first invited them to join Rotary even though they would be hard pressed to come up with the name of their first Club President or District Governor. We need to make inviting outstanding business men and women to join Rotary, a habit for every Club in our District.

To meet this goal Governor George is continuing a District wide Club Growth drive, “Claiming Our Future”. If we all work together we can change the way we grow our clubs in this district. In January we follow up with a secondary drive to keep our momentum going. Incoming Governor Grace has already pledged to continue the program. Membership growth is not a single year goal; we need to establish a sustainable way to add qualified new members to our Clubs, every year.

Governor George has created positions for Membership coordinators in every Territory of the District to help serve as a resource for clubs and Assistant Governors. We have speakers, handouts, and lots of promotional materials available for you to use.

RETENTION

Retention is as much a part of club growth as anything. Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee is challenging every president to come up with creative ways in each of their clubs to deal with these economically difficult times, to preserve and support the clubs existing members. Retention will be a key measure in earning a Presidential Citation.
