Rotary District 5230 District Governor George Wade is a native Californian born of Lebanese parents, and he didn’t speak English until the first grade in Portland, Oregon.
George (retired business owner) and his wife Barbara (retired English Teacher) have been married 46 years. They have raised two daughters and now enjoy watching their two granddaughters grow up. George has always been a strong community activist as well as serving in a leadership capacity in the Episcopal Church. He has many interests. Included among his favorites are Broadway Shows, Live Concerts, Traveling, and Singing in various musical groups. When the weather is warm, he’s outdoors; when it’s cold, he’s by the fire.
On the way to his election as District Governor, George has been very active in District 5230 leadership. His first involvement was as Rotary Youth Exchange Communications Officer. He served two years as District Membership and Retention Chair, served as District Newsletter Editor, and has served three years as Assistant Governor of Information-Communication. In our district George is referred to as the Grandfather of electronic communications; having inspired the creation of the IRC.
George has the unique experience of having been a member and Past President of two other Rotary Clubs and is currently a member of the Rotary Club of East Fresno. He became a charter member of the Rotary Club of Fresno Sunrise in 1983, and the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Fresno Airport in 2008. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation. In addition he has been honored as Rotarian of the Year.
