Debbie Hale

Debbie was born in Sacramento, California and raised in Silicon Valley.  She attended college at UC Berkeley, and Graduate School at Princeton University’s school of Public and International Affairs.  She joined Rotary in 2006 and is a member of the Salinas Steinbeck Rotary Club, where she served as Club President in 2012/13.  She retired in October 2022 from a successful 35-year career in public service, having held positions with the California State Assembly and local agencies in Monterey, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Joaquin Counties. She most recently served for 15 years as the Executive Director of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, where she managed a 30-year, $1 billion program of transportation projects to make it safer to walk, bike, take the bus and drive in Monterey County.  Now she is a full-time Rotary and community volunteer.
 
As a Rotarian, Debbie has served as the District Grants Chair, Polio Plus Chair, and Assistant Governor for Area 3.  She was fortunate to participate in a National Immunization Day in Bareilly, India in 2018.  Working with host Rotary clubs, she has raised money for global grants water supply projects in Honduras and El Salvador.
 
As for hobbies, Debbie is a runner, bike rider, knitter, world-traveler, linguistic dabbler, beer drinker, and bacon-eater. Her favorite Rotary saying is “we are people of action! “She is inspired by the words of the Dean of the Princeton Graduate School, Rodney Priestly, whose mantra is, “The role of a leader is to define reality and inspire hope.”

Michael Rabara, a lifelong resident of Fresno is a graduate of Duncan Polytechnical High School, Camp Royal Alumni 97’, Cypress College School of Mortuary College in southern California and obtained Political Science degrees from Fresno City College and California State University Fresno. Currently, Michael is the Vice President of Chapel of the Light Funeral Home and Cemetery where he has established a reputation as a distinguished funeral home executive.
Michael enjoys spending time in married life with his husband Rudy and their son, Stanton. A dedicated family man, Michael strives to set an example for their son so that he can become a respectful, smart and giving little human. In his spare time, Michael enjoys a great glass of wine, golfing, flying and just enjoying life.

Michael is a member of many civic organization throughout the state of California. He currently serves as the District Governor Nominee of District 5230, Assistant Governor of Area 8, a Board Member on the District Board of Directors, a Past President of the Rotary Club of North Fresno, a member of the Rotary LGBTQ Fellowship, a Benefactor and Major Donor and a member of the Paul Harris Society and Polio Plus Society. He also serves as Chairman of the Finance Council for Saint John’s Cathedral, Chairman of the City of Fresno Implementation Planning Committee. Michael also is a board of director and past two-term President of the Central Valley Funeral Directors Association which serves Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties. In 2005, Michael was awarded the distinguished honor of “California Young Funeral Director of the Year” award at their annual convention held in San Francisco.

RI Theme 2024-25 The Magic of RotaryBesides being active within many civic organizations, Michael has always maintained complete allegiance to his community and the many families he has served throughout the Fresno area. Michael has been entrusted with many of Fresno’s highest profile funerals most recently, the officers from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, Fresno Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Clovis Police Department, Lemoore Police Department and the Reedley Police Department who gave the ultimate sacrifice while protecting us. He has the respect of not only his peers but also the many clergy and community leaders he has come in contact with.
