Meet the District Governor Nominee
RAUDEN [Rod] H. COBURN, III DDS
“Dad, I would not be where I am today without Rotary” highlighted a family discussion following Rod’s selection as District Governor 2019-20. While joining Rotary to continue community service after being the President of the Fresno-Madera Dental Society and the Central Valley YMCA, little did his family know they were going to be a prime beneficiary of Rotary membership.
|Rod and Shelly, married 51 years, along with their three children enthusiastically participated in youth exchanges as a host family for inbound students from Scotland, Mexico, Spain, South Africa, and Australia. Their children all had international experience, either as exchange students or living and traveling with families of their hosted students.
Rod had a family dental practice while at the same time teaching at UCSF, School of Dentistry. He ceased teaching when recruited to be a dental benefit consultant, which continues to today. Along the way, he and a group of dentists created a dental treatment network and a third party administration business to process group dental claims. As the children grew up, Shelly reentered education, following a twenty-year hiatus, as a classroom teacher and subsequently completed her Masters degree. Upon retiring from Selma Unified School District, she continues as a mentor instructor at Fresno Pacific University.
Rod served as President of Fig Garden Rotary Club in 2003-04, after previously being the chair of the district’s summer youth exchange program. He has also served the district as Lieutenant Governor and Assistant Governor. He is multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Rod served as Foreman of Fresno County’s civil Grand Jury. He is currently the Board Chair of the Fresno County Employees’ Retirement Association and also serves as a Trustee of the Fresno Mosquito and Vector Control District.
Rod and Shelly are excited to continue serving Rotary. Their passion is the ‘Family of Rotary and are looking forward to helping all Rotarians share Rotary.
