Club Services involve all of the activities necessary for Rotarians to make their club function successfully. The service members ensure a smooth, efficient and productive atmosphere and operation. Rotary International encourages each club to consider the following Club Service points:
ATTENDANCE: To encourage and promote regular attendance, make-ups, and find remedies for less than regular attendance.
FELLOWSHIP: To create an atmosphere of cordiality and hospitality among members, guests and visiting Rotarians alike. To ensure that everyone is aware of birthdays, anniversaries and special honors of each member and their families.
NETWORKING: This is the second pillar on which Rotary was founded. Its original purpose was supported by the Classification system where the number of candidates for membership in the club were limited to one per vocation; however this has since changed. This tended to support doing business with Rotarians selected to me members of the club. Under Club Service and Vocational Service we encourage members to share their business experiences.
PROGRAMS: The very heart of every good club. To prepare and arrange interesting and informative programs, balanced in subject matter, yet topical and though provoking for all.
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: To review continuously the club roster and seek out potential members. To present to the Board of Directors the names of suitable persons for membership.
MEMBERSHIP: Evaluate prospective members’ character and reputation (both personal and business). Is the proposed member “service minded”, and can he or she meet the club’s attendance and financial obligations of membership?
ROTARY INFORMATION: Inform all members of the privileges and obligations of Rotary. This is a continuous program on the workings of the individual club, its district, and, of course, Rotary International.
These are the basic Club Service Committees. Many other committees can be utilized effectively by local clubs to fit their particular needs.
